Chronicles of Inkopia: A Fantasy Splatoon Zine


Chronicles of Inkopia is a free digital zine exploring and celebrating fantasy interpretations of the Splatoon universe! We will take great inspiration from classic fantasy media, RPGs and board games for this project.Knights, mages, adventurers, nobility, and all alike - all are welcome in the Inkopia, capital of the realm!We will be featuring 40 page artists and 4 creative writers in this project.


Application Guide


Are you a new traveller looking to join our adventuring party? If so, you’ve come to the right place! Before submitting your application to join our zine and embark on a great adventure with us, we would like to share with you tips, advice, and most importantly, guidelines for what we are looking for with our Page Artists and Writers.Upon completion of your application, you will receive a copy of your form via the email that you have provided. Even after submission, you are free to edit your application any time you desire until applications close. Preparing a Portfolio

In your application to be either an Artist or a Writer, we will ask you for a portfolio of your work. Your portfolio should be a collection of work that you feel best represents what you as a creator will bring to our zine. Your portfolio is not required to depict Splatoon or fantasy themed artwork or writing, but they are considered a bonus, as they will allow for us to better imagine how you will interpret a fantasy-themed Splatoon world!You may host your portfolio via a Google Drive folder, or a website hosted by services such as Carrd, Wix or SquareSpace. As a last resort, we will accept links to social media sites such as Twitter or Instagram, but please ensure your artwork is not buried in other posts, and is clearly and easily accessible.We are specifically looking for finished pieces, so please avoid sending work-in-progress creations or sketches. We ask that your work is easy to access using the link you have provided, and contains no NSFW content. In the event your portfolio contains any NSFW content, we will disregard your application.


General Application Guidelines

• You must be 13 and over.• You will be required to provide an email address for us to contact you with.• You must also have a Discord account, as the project will be organised through a private server on the platform.• This zine is SFW. Adult content (i.e. gore, nudity) will not be allowed. This extends to the Discord server itself. Any inappropriate behaviour will be met with a warning - if you receive two strikes, you will be removed from the zine.


Page Artist Guidelines

• We are looking to recruit 40 page artists.• Please include a minimum of 3 or more pieces of complete and fully rendered artwork in your portfolio. We will be accepting digital and traditional artwork (permitted it is scanned at 300 DPI or higher). 3D art will not be featured in this zine.• In your portfolio, we ask that you include artwork you feel best depicts what kind of piece you wish to create for the zine. We will be judging applications by looking for great character and background art, specifically creative and eye-catching pieces that take into account strong usage of composition and color, as well as strong visual style. Be sure to highlight the elements you believe makes your style creative and unique!• Your background may be complex or simple, as long as it does not appear too empty.

Creative Writer Guidelines

• We are looking to recruit 4 writers.• Please include 3 samples of written work in prose format. At least one sample must be between 1500-2000 words, but none should exceed 2000. Samples must be written in English, and must depict proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.• You will be given the opportunity in your application to highlight two pieces of work you feel best reflects what kind of style you want to use in your piece for zine. They can be, but do not have to be part of your portfolio.• Your portfolio may include links to published work on fanfiction hosting sites such as AO3, as long as they are accessible via the link you have provided.• You may submit finished self-contained works, or excerpts of larger pieces.• In your portfolio, we ask that you include artwork you feel best depicts what kind of piece you wish to create for the zine. We will be judging applications by looking for pieces that convey a cohesive story within the word limit; depicting strong characterisation, and the ability to engage the reader within an immersive world of your creation. Be sure your submissions highlight elements you believe makes your writing style unique and captivating!


Regarding Backup Artists and Writers

• We will be selecting backup artists and writers to join us in the event that someone has to drop out of the zine or are unable to meet a required deadline.• If you would like to be considered as a backup artist or writer in the event that someone drops out of the zine and your application was previously rejected, there will be an option on the application to specify you would like to do so.

Greetings! I'm Keysa, head mod of Chronicles of Inkopia! I've always been passionate about fantasy and medieval media, so, along with my love for Splatoon, this merging of the two was meant to happen.With this project, I'm seeking for our participants to have a good time while putting their creativity at work to depict this little realm we call Inkopia.I'll be directing the project and providing promotional art for the zine!

Co-Host, Writing Mod

Hi there, I'm Colly! I love all things video games, jamming to music (especially j-electro), and crying over fictional characters. I love fantasy as a genre of fiction, especially all things magical!As co-host, I'll be helping Keysa by managing social media, as well as handling general zine and Discord management. As a creative writing graduate, I'll also be the Writing Mod for the zine, in charge of grading future apps and contributions!
